Camping 101, Shipman Style

I have not had a Spring Break since I was in college one million years ago.  Since Brian is teaching at the University, he decided to take his Spring Break with his family!

Normally I would have a job and would not have the time off to spend with him during Spring Break.  Now that I make my own hours, I mean Carter makes my hours, we can go where the wind takes us, I mean where Carter takes us!

Brian paddles in the Missouri Whitewater Asc. championships every year.  I have not been able to go in years.  This year we borrowed a friends pop-up camper.  We headed to the St. Francis River near Ironton/Fredricktown, MO.  Brian had two days of racing and we had a third day to just hang around the camp site.

Carter was so happy.  He loved being around the river and throwing rocks into it.  He loved being able to run around the campground.  And he really loved getting in the canoe with us for rides around the smooth water.

After three nights of the campground we broke camp and headed to my dad's cabin in Houston, MO.  We stayed there for three more relaxing nights.  We hiked to the creek, took the canoe to the Big Piney River just down the road and relaxed.

Carter came back from one hike with Brian telling me they saw a possum.  It was so cute because he was so excited about it.   Brian said he kept saying, "I saw a possum" over and over and over.  As soon as he got to me he went blank.  Ha, Ha.

I wonder if Carter will remember these moments.

Cousins in the Play Hut

Caelyn and Carter were playing on Sunday morning in Carter's Play Hut.  Carter was so excited his cousin had spent the night.  It was hard to get faces and close.  I didn't want to ruin the moment by getting to close.  I'm so glad they play well together!

Picnic

My sister Katy and I promised the kids a picnic.  This day was so windy we knew it would be impossible to do it outside.  So, thank goodness they loved the picnic on the floor inside the house!

Cousins at play

Carter and Caelyn (about  8 months apart in age) thought coloring with the chalk was going to be awesome.  So did I.  I got them started and I guess the giant chalk was not so cool and the moment lasted about 7 minutes.

Story Time

Even after a hard day, Uncle Jansen loves to cuddle with the kiddos.  Carter loves Uncle Jansen and the basketball.

The faces of Carter

I can't believe he will be 2 next month.

ABC dance

Carter sometimes does a little dance when he is singing his ABCs.  We love to sit back and watch.

Tater Tot Melt Down

Ok, so I know this is kind of mean, but it was so funny to me.
Carter asked for tater tots out of the blue.  He said it so clearly I had to get him saying it on camera.  Of course I was teasing him and then of course there was the melt down.
